Acting 1
This course enlarges the student’s understanding of “performance” in a playful, encouraging, collaborative atmosphere. Acting 1 is designed to offer students a dynamic, engaging introduction to theater training. Students will learn techniques for improving their self-confidence in a safe, playful environment through the exploration of basic acting principles. In fun and engaging exercises, students will work on overcoming stage-fright, improving focus and concentration, connecting with a others through trust games and active listening, understanding “stage presence,” and opening their imaginations to playing characters. Because actor training is also life training, students can expect to find new, deeper connections to others and their own creativity. See photos below from our first class showcase! |
Acting 2-4 and Advanced Theatre Workshop
If you're interested in leveling up in acting class, you can take one class each semester. Once you pass Acting 4, you will register for Advanced Theatre Workshop, which is repeatable until you graduate. Typically taught in the same block, this course is a mix of different levels of advanced actors. Because students have the opportunity to take this class more than once, the units of study rotate from semester to semester to ensure that no one will learn the same techniques twice. Course work includes continued exercises, improvisations, and naturalistic/realistic scene study. Out-of-class assignments include ensemble building exercises, objective work, the reading of plays and theoretical works on acting technique, analytic and critical writing assignments, scene study and preparation, devising, and much more. Students' creativity flourishes at this advanced level. |
